Competence Centres for Social Innovation working group - kick-off meeting

The meeting of the Competence Centres for Social Innovation Working Group will take place in Portugal on the 21st of June, during the Social Innovation Village, the most significant social innovation event in Portugal, organized by Portugal Social Innovation in the beautiful small border town of Aldeia da Luz, located within the Municipality of Mourão, region of Alentejo.  

The kick-off meeting will bring together the ESF+ committee members with each EU Member State's key contact persons directly involved in one of the approved EU consortia for the National Competence Centres in the respective countries. It will be an excellent opportunity to align future thinking and action(s) addressing the emerging needs on the ground identified by National Competence Centres, to discuss the key elements of the approach, and working modalities of the Working group to ensure sustainable and productive cooperation.

The agenda the 21st of June starts with a debate on "Can Europe lead the way to reduce inequalities and address the major problems that society faces?" which will also include testimonials of practices across several EU Member States. In the afternoon, a collaborative session dedicated to aligning future thinking and action(s) in terms of policy and practice, addressing emerging needs and potential of the social innovation ecosystem in areas related to capacity building, ecosystem mapping, public sector support and the future competence centres operational model(s) will take place.

The Social Innovation Village choice of location respects the innovative concept of creating a landmark for the dissemination, promotion, and scaling of Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship in Portugal and Europe from an inland and/or peripheral territory, transforming it into a social innovation collaborative and interactive space for learning, sharing experience that is open to the community and energized by emblematic innovators.
