About the project

About the project
The main objective of the “Pan European Social Innovation Lab” (PEnCIL) project is to support the establishment, development and professionalisation of organisations that act or can act as a Competence centre for social innovation. In order to achieve this objective, a number of actions have been undertaken by different countries. Each country chose different approaches, but the results were the same, i.e.:
- establishing a Competence centre for social innovation, recognised by social innovation practitioners and stakeholders, academia, local social and economic development organisations;
- analysing strengths and weaknesses of social innovation and to analyse national ecosystems of social innovation;
- developing a strategy and action plan to support the development of social innovation in a country, including support under ESF+ instrument;
- establishing a framework for the continuous improvement and adaptation of the tools and methodologies, resources and practices of each country's Competence Centre, in order to achieve a high level of quality in cooperation and networking among countries.
In 2021 – 2023 ESFA, together with partners from ESF managing authorities in Belgium, Czech Republic and Finland, implemented a project called “PEnCIL” (Pan European Social Innovation Lab), funded by the European Commission. It is one of 6 projects funded by the EC, with the main objective of identifying visions, needs, opportunities, and priorities of social innovation stakeholders, with a view to developing a strategy and action plan for national social innovation hubs at national level.
The new Competence Centre for Social Innovation provide information and advice to those interested in the development of social innovation, provide training for different target groups, and strengthen international cooperation, networking, and competences of stakeholders in the field.
